A move is more than boxes. Contracts, dates, children, keys, helpers and a workable first night all depend on one another. A phased plan keeps everything from collapsing into the final week.

Eight to six weeks before

Confirm the handover date, book transport or help, and collect every contract that needs an address change. Keep quotes, receipts and important contacts together.

Start with items you rarely use. Decluttering is much easier before the time pressure begins.

Four to two weeks before

Plan room by room and label boxes with both destination and priority. Arrange care for children or pets and confirm parking, lifts and keys.

Keep documents, medicine and valuables in a separate bag that travels with you.

The first night matters

A clearly marked first-night box with bedding, chargers, towels, snacks and basic kitchen items changes the experience. Furniture does not need to be perfect; daily life needs to work.
