Preparing for birth is not about presenting a perfect nursery. The priority is having documents, the hospital bag, the return home and care arrangements ready enough that the family can act even if things begin earlier than expected.

Start with time-critical essentials

Pack documents, medicine, chargers, comfortable clothes and important contacts earlier than feels necessary. Confirm the route to the birth place and a backup if the first support person is unavailable.

The first 48 hours at home

A safe sleep space, diapers, a few suitable clothes, feeding supplies for your plan and basic care are enough to begin. Prepare simple food and a small supply station where you will actually spend time.

Plan for the whole family

Older children, animals and ongoing responsibilities need specific names and times. Decide who will update relatives and friends so the parents do not have to communicate while they are arriving home.
